Constraint-Surface Dynamics is a personal research programme run by Zayn Blore, an independent researcher based in the United Kingdom. It is not a company and sells nothing. This page explains what happens to data when you visit.

The two sites

This policy covers www.constraintsurfacedynamics.com, hosted by Squarespace, and glossary.constraintsurfacedynamics.com, hosted by GitHub Pages. Both are covered because both carry the same analytics.

What is collected

There are no accounts, no forms, no newsletter, no payments and no shop. Nothing is asked of you and nothing is stored about you by name.

Both sites use Google Analytics 4 (measurement ID G-W92F78PH51) to count visits. It records which pages were viewed and in what order, roughly where in the world the visit came from (country or region, derived from an IP address that Google truncates), the device and browser used, how the site was reached — a search engine, a link, or typed directly — and some interactions with the page: how far it was scrolled, links followed away from the site, files downloaded, and searches made on the site.

It does not record your name, your email address, or anything you have not chosen to make public. No personal information is asked for, and none is sold, rented or passed to anyone for marketing.

Google Analytics assigns each browser a random identifier so repeat visits can be counted as one visitor rather than several. That identifier does not name you, but under UK data protection law it may still count as personal data, so the rights below apply to it.

Data sharing with Google is switched off

Google Analytics offers four optional settings that share your data with Google for its own purposes — improving Google products, modelling and benchmarking, technical support access, and account recommendations. All four are turned off on this property. The data is used to count visits to this site and nothing else.

Cookies and local storage

Google Analytics sets cookies in your browser, named _ga and ga*, to recognise a returning browser. They typically last up to two years.

Squarespace sets a cookie named crumb on the main site. It is a security token that protects against cross-site request forgery. The site does not work correctly without it.

The glossary stores a single value called csd-cookie-ack in your browser's local storage when you dismiss the cookie notice, so it does not reappear on every page. It contains nothing but the fact that you clicked the button.

Turning analytics off

Blocking or deleting cookies for this site breaks nothing — every page works exactly the same without them. You can block them in your browser settings, use private browsing, or install Google's official Analytics opt-out browser add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.

Who else sees data

Squarespace and GitHub host the two sites and, like all web hosts, keep server logs that include IP addresses for security and reliability. They act on my instructions as processors. Google processes analytics data as described above. Data may be processed outside the United Kingdom, including in the United States, under the transfer safeguards those providers publish.

Pages here link out to Zenodo, Qeios, GitHub, ORCID and ResearchGate, where papers and code are published. Once you follow a link, that service's own privacy policy applies and this one does not.

How long it is kept

Google Analytics is set to delete event-level data after 2 months and user-level data after 14 months. Aggregate reports — visit counts and page totals with no individual detail — are kept for as long as the programme runs.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you can ask for a copy of any personal data held about you, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, object to it being processed, or ask for processing to be restricted. Write to the address above and I will answer within one month.

If you are not satisfied with the response you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date below changes with it. There is no mailing list to notify.
